Okay, we’re starting the week with two ATP 250 tournaments on clay, in Kitzbuhel and Estoril.
Honestly, I’m having a really hard time seeing how some players like Arthur Rinderknech, Valentin Vacherot or Tomas Martin Etcheverry are going to be able to go the distance against big servers like Alexander Bublik or Ignacio Buse on these fast courts at high altitude in Kitzbuhel.
It’s going to be a real physical and mental battle, with players having to gradually wear down their opponents to hope to win. I would be very surprised to see one-sided matches.
In Estoril, on the other hand, we’re getting closer to the playing conditions we had last week in Umag and Bastad. Heavy clay courts, balls that don’t cut through the air, that should favor clay court specialists like Casper Ruud, Alejandro Tabilo or Andrey Rublev.
But be careful of some Portuguese players like Nuno Borges or Tiago Pereira, who could be transcended at the idea of playing at home. It’s starting to look too high for them on paper, but I refuse to believe they won’t fight.
