Santiago 2026

Santiago, Chile 24 February - 1 March 2026 Clay (Outdoor) 32 players
Prize Money $681,500

Analysis

Santiago stands out strongly from other South American tournaments due to its altitude of 560 meters. While Buenos Aires and Rio offer a sticky and extremely slow clay surface, the high altitude in Chile lifts the ball in flight and gives the serve much more effectiveness. The conditions play more like a fast clay court, making direct comparisons with the previous weeks completely misleading.

The day/night contrast in Santiago is spectacular. During the day, under the heat, the ball accelerates a lot and the serve becomes a formidable weapon. As soon as the sun sets, temperatures drop and the courts slow down, becoming a classic and slow clay court again. Two players scheduled at different times face practically two different surfaces - a huge factor for the predictions.

The atmosphere created by the local crowd can make the difference. Nicolas Jarry took advantage of the warm support of the local fans in 2023 to win. In a small stadium like this one, this psychological advantage can really change the outcome of a close match.

The figures place Santiago midway between the slow clay courts of South America and the faster ones of Europe. The ace rate reveals a surface where the serve retains an impact, unlike the ultra-slow variants on the calendar.

Favored Profiles

Powerful players and good servers tend to do better here. Especially in the morning. What really decides it is being able to adapt to the changing temperature throughout the day — doing that well separates the winners from the rest.

Players who are too dependent on a single playing style risk being exposed.
