Marrakech, Morocco 30 March - 5 April 2026 Clay (Outdoor) 32 players

Analysis

Marrakech, it's clay that doesn't play like clay. The altitude (460 m) and the dry climate significantly accelerate the ball compared to what you find in Barcelona or Monte-Carlo. The bounce is higher, faster — and that changes everything tactically. You can't just settle in the back of the court and wait for the other to crack, because the ball comes back to you too fast and too high.

This is what makes Marrakech treacherous: the baseline players who play at a steady pace, in control, find themselves overwhelmed by the speed of play. Conversely, the players who hit hard with topspin and know how to vary their trajectories are in their element. The high bounce gives them time to wind up, and the altitude gives power to their shots. This is a tournament where you need to be able to accelerate, not just defend.

The recent record confirms it: Darderi and Berrettini, two players who hit hard, with a lot of spin, and who take the ball early when they feel an opening. In Marrakech, if you wait, you lose.

The stats remain within the clay court norms, but the serve is a bit more effective than in Bucharest or Budapest thanks to the altitude - the ball arrives faster on the returner's side, and they have less time to react.

Favored Profiles

Heavy topspin hitters, capable of accelerating from the back of the court. You need to know how to handle the high and fast bounce. Above all, don't remain passive. Marrakech belongs to the players who take the initiative in the rally.

One-dimensional players will struggle to adapt to the conditions.
